After You Have Suffered: God Will Establish

Suffering makes us feel weak, but God promises strength to His faithful children. First Peter 5:10 emphasizes this: “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” Over the past couple of days, we’ve considered what it means to be confirmed and strengthened. Today, let’s consider God’s promise to “establish.”

For something to be strong, it must be well-grounded. A strong house must sit upon a strong foundation. If the foundation is weak, it won’t matter how strong the rest of the house is built. The strength God supplies is complete; it’s ground-up, you might say. God doesn’t just support us. He is also the foundation upon which our support rests. If our foundation is in our own ability, our strength will fail. But if God is our foundation, then we can find a strength capable of weathering any storm.
