Stumbling Stone or Cornerstone?

People have very different reactions to Jesus. They did during Jesus’ earthly ministry, and they do today. Peter describes this with some quotations from Old Testament Scripture. In 1 Peter 2:6-8, Peter says,

“For it stands in Scripture: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’ So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,’ and ‘A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.’ They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.”

For those who believe in and obey Jesus, He is a cornerstone—He is the foundation that strengthens us and builds us up into a spiritual house. For the unbelieving and disobedient, Jesus is a stumbling block—something they can’t avoid, but their rejection of Him becomes their downfall. What is Jesus to you—stumbling block or cornerstone?
